A Home Away From Home for the Limba Community in Maryland
Mabohanday Maryland Chapter is a cultural, philanthropic and community based nonprofit, registered under 501(c), serving Sierra Leoneans of Limba heritage across the State of Maryland. Built on the indigenous principle of Mabohanday, meaning unity, togetherness and collective progress, we are a vibrant home away from home. We bring families, professionals, youth and elders together to celebrate a shared identity, build supportive networks, and foster long term community resilience.

Our Mission Statement
To unite, empower and uplift the Sierra Leonean and Limba diaspora across Maryland by preserving our rich cultural heritage, fostering mutual aid, supporting youth development, and driving sustainable socio economic growth both locally and in Sierra Leone.

OUR STORY
Our History and Legacy
The Mabohanday movement grew from a shared desire among Limba Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora to preserve our ancestral traditions while building new lives abroad, welcoming associate members who are spouses of Limba descendants. As our community in Maryland grew, a formal, unified body became essential. Established as an active chapter in 1999 under the broader Mabohanday Federation, our Maryland branch was created to turn cultural solidarity into organized, actionable impact.
Over the years, our members have led welfare initiatives, hosted cultural celebrations, and mobilized grassroots fundraising that provides relief, mentorship and vital assistance across Maryland and back home in Sierra Leone.
